Small Animal Cleaning & Care

Tuesdays 9-11a

ARLNH is looking for volunteers to assist with morning small animal care and cleaning for our resident rabbits, guinea pigs, and other small pets. Spend a few hours of your morning with our "Smalls" while cleaning their pens. This opportunity involves cleaning, changing bedding, feeding, and giving TLC to the animals. Get to know ARLNH’s smallest residents! This opportunity requires a minimum 6-month volunteer commitment.

Dog Walking

Thursday or Fridays 11am-1pm & 2-4pm

​Dog walkers play an essential role in providing daily exercise and socialization for the dogs at ARLNH that match their skill levels. You will have the opportunity to get to know our wonderful adoptable dogs while giving them the necessary walks, playtime, socialization, and enrichment they need. We are looking for a limited number of volunteers to help walk dogs during 2pm walks. All ARLNH Dog Walkers are required to complete our dog walking training.

Clinic Volunteer

The Clinic Volunteer plays a vital role in supporting the daily operations of the Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire's medical clinic, one of the busiest and most critical areas of the organization. This position primarily focuses on maintaining a clean, organized, and sanitary environment to support patient care and infection prevention. Because the clinic houses animals before, during, and after surgery, maintaining cleanliness is essential to protecting the health and recovery of our most vulnerable patients.

This position generally does not involve direct, hands-on animal care. Instead, volunteers are responsible for cleaning, disinfecting, organizing, and restocking clinic areas after medical procedures have been completed.

The Clinic Volunteer program includes two roles:

Weekday Clinic Cleaner

• Completes daily cleaning and organization tasks following the day's medical and surgical procedures.

• Prepares the clinic for the following day’s procedures as necessary. 

Weekend Clinic Cleaner

• Performs a more comprehensive cleaning of the clinic when clinic activity is reduced.

• Focuses on deep cleaning, organizing storage areas, and completing routine sanitation tasks that cannot always be accomplished during the busy workweek.

Volunteer Responsibilities

Weekday Clinic Cleaner (Available Shifts - Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 1-3p)

• Help staff move animals out of cages

• Clean all cages 

• Vacuum and mop floors 

• Clean instruments

• Clean ET tubes 

• Wrap surgical packs

• Take out trash and recycling

Weekend Clinic Cleaner (Either Friday, Saturday, or Sunday between 11-4)

• Remove all medicine boats from cages and soak

• Remove all heat mats from cages and scrub

• Scrub cages, especially doors 

• Wash windows and glass 

• Dust all overhead surfaces, especially vents and surgical light 

• Restock syringes and clinic cart 

• Vacuum and mop floors

Animal Handling

• Routine animal handling is not part of this volunteer position.

• Occasionally, clinic staff may ask a volunteer to assist with transporting an animal from the clinic to another area of the shelter after it has recovered from a procedure. Volunteers should only handle or transport animals when specifically instructed by clinic staff.

• Some animals in the clinic are privately owned patients, while others may be disoriented, painful, or become fearful upon waking from anesthesia. For the safety of both volunteers and animals, volunteers should never remove or handle animals without staff direction.

Training Requirements
No prior veterinary or medical experience is required. All volunteers will receive training on:

• Cleaning and disinfection procedures

• Proper use of cleaning products and equipment

• Clinic safety protocols

• Waste disposal procedures

• Volunteer responsibilities and limitations

• Volunteer Expectations

• Reliable and punctual.

• Detail oriented and committed to cleanliness.

• Able to follow written and verbal instructions.

• Comfortable performing cleaning and organizational tasks.

• Respectful of safety protocols and volunteer role boundaries.

• Willing to ask staff for clarification whenever questions arise.

 

By maintaining a clean, organized, and sanitary clinic environment, Clinic Volunteers directly contribute to the health, safety, and recovery of shelter animals while supporting the veterinary team in providing high-quality medical care.

Pet Food Pantry Volunteer

Are you passionate about helping pets and the people who love them? Join our Pet Food Pantry volunteer team and help support families in our community by ensuring pets have access to the food and supplies they need. Click to learn more about the Pet Food Pantry Program

 

Volunteers assist with a variety of hands-on tasks that help keep our pantry running smoothly, including:

• Organizing and stocking pantry supplies

• Rebagging donated pet food into smaller portions

• Preparing and assembling client pickup orders

• Assisting with distribution to community partners

This opportunity is a great fit for individuals who enjoy staying active, working as part of a team, and making a direct impact on pets in need. No prior experience is necessary, training will be provided!

 

Requirements:

• Ability to lift and carry large bags of pet food up to 50 lbs and supplies (with accommodations available when possible)

• Comfortable standing, bending, and moving throughout volunteer shifts

• Reliable and detail-oriented

• Passion for animal welfare and compassionate community support

Bunny Quilts

This is a flexible position. 

​

ARLNH's resident rabbits use special bunny quilts that fit in their housing and make their pens extra cozy. We are looking for a volunteer who enjoys quilting/sewing, who would be willing to make us some new ones and repair any torn quilts at home. We would also love to host a group of interested quilters who could come to the shelter for a fun, volunteer day to make and repair bunny quilts!
