Leah Miller

Community Engagement Coordinator

Leah works closely with the Shelter Vet and Director of Operations to coordinate all aspects of animal surrenders as well as the shelter's foster program. She worked as a part of the Animal Care team from 2010-2014 and recently rejoined ARLNH in 2019 as an Animal Care Specialist before taking on her current role.

She began as a volunteer in high school, cleaning cat cages with her mom on

the weekends as well as fostering kittens. She especially enjoyed working with

the sick cats with URI (upper respiratory infection) and seeing them grow

stronger and healthier each week. So once she graduated, she jumped at the

opportunity to join the Animal Care team as a staff member. In 2014, Leah left

ARL to do some traveling and once she returned home, started a pet sitting

business. As exciting as road-tripping and exploring National Parks was,

she always knew that one day she would return to her true passion - the world of animal sheltering.

Leah enjoys working with members of the public who may be considering giving up a pet due to difficult times and is passionate about helping improve animal lives coming from unfortunate situations. Having fostered as a volunteer, Leah is enthusiastic about growing the program and working with foster families to provide many of the shelter's at-risk populations a safe place to stay until ready for adoption day. She enjoys cooking, going on walks with her cat, hiking, backpacking, and rock climbing in her spare time. Leah lives with her boyfriend and two senior cats, V. and Tabitha, both adopted from ARL.
