Kittens
-
When is the best time to adopt kittens?
The spring and summer months are the time that the shelter sees the most kittens. However, we do get them in throughout the year.
-
Is there a waiting list for kittens? No, there is not a waiting list for kittens. It is suggested to call the shelter to inquire if there are any kittens available at that time. (603-472-3647)
Puppies
- Do you get Puppies in and how can I get one?
The Animal Rescue League of NH does get puppies in from time-to-time and most of them are arriving on the transports that we arrange with a couple of shelters in the South. New Hampshire does not have as many puppies available due to a higher rate of spay/neuter. Therefore, we are able to help Southern shelters with their overpopulation problem by transporting pups from their shelters into ours where there are many families looking to adopt a puppy. We recommend calling the shelter at 472-3647 on a regular basis and the adoption counselors will be happy to let you know if any puppies are currently available for adoption.
Volunteering
-
How old do you have to be to volunteer at the shelter?
In order to volunteer here, you must be at least 14 years old. All children that are 14 or 15 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian while volunteering.
-
How do I start volunteering? All volunteers are required to attend a volunteer orientation prior to volunteering. Please call the shelter to sign up for the orientation. (603-472-3647). You can also read more about our volunteer program by clicking here.
Limited Admission Shelter
-
What is a Limited Admission Shelter? The Animal Rescue League of NH is considered a Limited Admissions shelter. This term means that the shelter takes animals by appointment only and the animal must meet certain standards to ensure adoptability. No animals will be euthanized for lack of space or after a predetermined time limit. Once an animal enters our adoption program, they will remain at the shelter until they are adopted. However, if any animal is considered un-adoptable for severe medical issues or if the animal shows aggressive behavior, the shelter staff would have to make the choice to euthanize the animal. Because of these policies, the Animal Rescue League of NH is NOT considered a "no-kill shelter" although we do follow a no-kill operating philosophy. |
